Relative to most other industries, clubs have been slow to adopt technological advancements over the past two decades. An abrupt introduction to concepts like virtual member service and remote work over the last 18 months likely has some clubs reconsidering how they prioritize investments in hardware, software, infrastructure and the humans that make it all work.
The second table shows 2019-2020 year-over-year change in IT expense by revenue range. The difference between the smallest clubs and the largest clubs could be attributed to the amount of catch-up required to accommodate expanded IT requirements during the pandemic.
