All American demographics would pay a significant amount of money to get meal of their lives, according to a recent Michelin-sponsored survey by Harris Poll. On average respondents said they would pay $203 for the best
meal they’ve ever had.
Millennials are willing to pay more for this experience than older Americans. This generation would pay $282 for an unsurpassed meal compared to just $170 for those ages 45 through 54 and $122 for those 65 and older.
Geography plays a factor, too. Western diners would pay $352 for the dining experience of their lives while diners in the Northeast would pay $182. Southerners would dole out $149 and Midwesterners would spend one dollar less than that at $148.
The study found that gender contributes to how much someone is willing to spend. Men, on average, would pay $241 for the best meal of their lives while women would spend just $166.
Where would they all go to get this experience? Twenty-five percent of survey respondents said that a steakhouse was their favorite style of cuisine. Second on the list was Italian cuisine with nearly a quarter of diners in the Northeast ranking Italian first, while 18 percent of Southern diners, 17 percent of those in the West and 15 percent of Midwesterners said the same. Mexican, American and Continental cuisines were tied for third at 13 percent.
