The BA.5 variant now makes up about 65% of all COVID-19 U.S. cases, reports the CDC. Notably, studies have shown that the variant is able to bypass vaccine and previous infection immunities more easily than prior strains. Additionally, ABC reports that the increase in reinfections is in part due to more infections spreading overall, creating more chances to contract the virus again, and more Americans resuming their normal habits.

Teen Employment Trends Upward: The summer of 2021 was the strongest in years for U.S. teenagers seeking work. Beset by labor shortages, businesses trying to come back from the COVID-19 pandemic hired nearly a million more teens than in the summer of 2020 Data so far this year, as well as more anecdotal evidence, suggests that this could be another strong summer for teens looking to earn some money. In May, about 5.5 million 16- to 19-year-olds were employed (not adjusting for seasonal variations) – 145,000 more than in May 2021. See full article here.
