NCA Monthly: November

NCA Monthly – Dec. 1

The National Club Association (NCA) had an exciting November monitoring and updating members on what’s happening on Capitol Hill, providing regular and timely webcasts and our first Championship Club Conference to members and much more. Below is our November showcase highlighting the information clubs need most.

NCA this month filed comments with the Department of Labor (DOL) about proposed changes to overtime regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and, along with trade associations from multiple industries, signed onto a Waters Advocacy Coalition letter offering concerns about proposed changes to the Ordinary High Water Mark standards of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which could affect clubs. And NCA signed onto a coalition letter encouraging the Department of State and Department of Homeland Security to extend H-2B visa interview waiver authorities currently set to expire on Dec. 31.

The association happily announced the promotion of Katina Cavagnaro to vice president of membership and sales. Katina joined NCA in 2020—congratulations!

NCA issued a Member Alert when the Department of Homeland Security released 64,716 supplemental H-2B visas this month. We’re also continuing to monitor other Waters of the United States (WOTUS) regulation issues, federal overtime rulesOSHA’s proposed walk around inspection rule and other issues affecting private clubs. Details were sent to members in the Washington Weekly Update: Nov. 6Nov. 14; and Nov. 27

Leaders of clubs that host championship golf tournaments (PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, USGA, Korn Ferry, Epson, and others) along with clubs that hope to host them in the future gathered for a day of networking and information exchange during NCA’s inaugural Championship Club Conference at Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va. Presenters from Augusta National Golf Club, Congressional Country Club, Winged Foot Golf Club and the USGA offered unique, first-person insight into what it takes to attract and successfully host major tournaments, and attendees enjoyed getting to know each other over breakfast, lunch and during a closing cocktail reception. Look for a wrap-up of the event in the winter issue of Club Director magazine in early 2024 and details on next year’s Conference in the near future.

NCA’s robust schedule of webcasts continued in October; members can access full recordings at nationalclub.org or on the NCA app, available on the Apple Store and Google Play Store:
