Situational Awareness
The House and Senate are both in session this week with light schedules. President Biden is set to deliver the State of the Union on Tuesday evening. Senate Democrats and Republicans hold their separate annual policy retreats later this week after consideration of an appointment to the Court of Appeals. The House will consider measures to revoke the vaccine mandate for international travelers to the U.S. and a pair of bills to prevent non-citizens from voting in District of Columbia local elections, and to strike down the Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022 in the District.

NCA Attending GCSAA Conference
I am in Orlando today to attend the opening of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) Conference. Coming on the heels of attending the annual PGA Show, I’m happy to support NCA’s continued alliance with GCSAA. The two organizations collaborate frequently on legislative and regulatory matters at the federal level.
State of the Union Tuesday Evening
President Biden delivers the annual State of the Union to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night. The State of the Union is often used to tout the accomplishments of the administration and outline their goals for the year. This year marks an interesting moment when the administration faces a new Republican-controlled Congress and widely different priorities. The federal debt limit is likely to be a key theme as President Biden tries to consolidate around a consistent message about whether he will negotiate future spending restrictions as part of the debt ceiling debate. To date, there have been some mixed signals on the point. Newly-elected Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders will deliver the Republican response.
NCA Presents to Upper Midwest Chapter Tuesday
I will be traveling back to Minnesota Tuesday morning to attend the Upper Midwest Chapter meeting that evening at Oak Ridge Country Club. The Upper Midwest Chapter asked NCA to provide an update on government relations and club trends, and discuss the collaboration underway with the CMAA. In a recent blog post, CMAA President & CEO, Jeff Morgan provided a list of priorities and among them was working more closely with NCA. Both organizations share working together more closely as a priority to better serve the club community.
NCA Member Survey Underway
NCA members should have received invitations last week to participate in an online member survey. We appreciate your input and hope you’ll participate; it should take 10 minutes or less and if you choose, you can be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card. Your feedback will help shape the future of NCA. Please check your email for your invitation and thanks for participating.
