The National Club Association (NCA) believes club leaders, as well as attorneys and accountants, will find Clubs in Philanthropy to be of invaluable assistance in providing an overview of concepts related to club foundations and charitable initiatives and planned giving at private clubs. This publication is not, however, a substitute for the advice and expertise of a club’s legal counsel, certified public accountant or other tax advisor who are most qualified to apply tax law to their club’s particular circumstance.
NCA recognized a growing interest in forming foundations and other formalized ways for clubs to contribute to their communities. In 2020, NCA began a series of articles in Club Director magazine to address the many ways that club members can express their philanthropic behaviors to their clubs and to their communities. Experts Kevin Reilly and Larry Absheer wrote on five topics that include the related tax, legal and governance issues of charitable options and examples of outstanding club foundations and programs.
The Clubs in Philanthropy series includes:
- Club Philanthropy
- Planned Giving
- Foundation Concepts & Caveats
- Typical Club Foundations
- Emergency Assistance & Scholarship Funds
