A BOARD POLICY MANUAL (BPM) is a living document used by club boards and committees to effectively govern their clubs. It communicates to board members how to meet their fiduciary responsibilities, be compliant to governing documents and provides all policies necessary for consistency and efficiency in club governance.
For the new board member, the BPM serves as an orientation handbook that covers essential information about the club, board structure and operations, and fellow board members and staff. During the balance of the board member’s service, the manual is a working tool and resource about the club and board.
The BPM is often a binder of documents presented to board members, and sometimes it is an online tool available through a secure board portal. The BPM should include:
