NCA Government Relations Fact Sheet

Dear NCA Member,

For nearly 50 years, the National Club Association has defended, protected and advanced the interests and well-being of private, social and recreational clubs. As the only Washington, D.C.-based trade association representing the legislative and legal interests of private clubs, NCA is dedicated to advancing the private club agenda in Congress, in the regulatory agencies, in the statehouses and in the courthouses. Simply put, NCA ensures that the private club industry’s voice is heard on a wide range of federal, regulatory, state and legal issues.

The NCA Government Relations Fact Sheet explains our advocacy work on behalf of the private club industry. Please share it with your board members as well as industry colleagues who could benefit from NCA membership.

NCA was originally formed in 1961 to fight against an expansion of federal taxes levied against private clubs and over the 50 years since, its efforts have continued to focus on fighting for the industry. Today, NCA’s full-time dedicated government relations team is lobbying in Washington on issues such as employment matters, tax reform, immigration reform, health care reform, unionization of clubs, and small business legislation.

While our main focus is on the actions that take place in Washington, D.C., we also monitor activities that take place in the state capitals and we provide support and guidance to our members when issues arise that could be detrimental to the industry. Sales and property tax increases, the modification of greenbelt exemptions, legislation that increases taxes on individuals who traditionally join private clubs and state measures that directly hike taxes on clubs are all examples of state initiatives we have combated in the last year.

NCA also supports a number of coalitions to garner strength and support for specific issues important to private clubs. We are pleased to announce that we have joined a newly formed coalition, We Are Golf, designed to tell the story of golf’s impact on America’s economic, environmental and social agendas. While NCA’s mission is directed at all aspects of the private club industry, we recognize that golf is an important part of the industry for many private clubs.

No matter where the attack may come from, NCA’s government relations team has it covered for our members, your employees, your members and the industry. We appreciate your support as we continue our mission to ensure your club’s voice is heard not just on Capitol Hill, but throughout the federal government, and in the courthouses and statehouses as well.

Sincerely,

Brian R. Kroh                                         Susanne R. Wegrzyn
