NCA Monthly: November

NCA Monthly

’Tis the season! November and December are busy months for clubs, with celebrations and gatherings for members and staff filling the calendars. We wish you the happiest of holidays and a happy, healthy and successful new year ahead.

NCA President & CEO Joe Trauger kicked off the month briefing the California State Club Association on election results and NCA’s policy agenda. Mid-month found him presenting at the CMAA Governance & Leadership Symposium at Carmel Country Club, Charlotte, N.C. And he wrapped up the month in Massachusetts, briefing The Country Club’s Board of Governors.

NCA, CMAA and Club Benchmarking released the results of a landmark study on the economic impact of private clubs in the U.S., Nov. 18. The study marks the first of its kind, offering a true picture of what private clubs contribute to the U.S. economy. The research indicates these clubs collectively generated $32.6 billion in direct revenue in 2023, supported a $17.4 billion payroll, and employed 573,000 workers, underscoring the nation’s 5,659 private clubs as a vital contributor to the national and local economies (the study focused on 3,887 clubs with annual revenues of $1 million or more). The three organizations will take a deep dive into the study during a webinar on Tue., Dec. 17 at 1 pm ET; NCA members can register for free here.

Registration opens in December for NCA’s 2025 National Club Conference.

If you haven’t already, mark your calendars and get ready to register for NCA’s 2025 National Club Conference, April 27-29 at the New York Athletic Club—registration opens this month! With exciting networking opportunities, two days of education sessions (CEUs available), the Excellence in Club Management® Awards Dinner & Gala, NCA Chair’s Reception and Dinner, and our annual golf tournament, it’ll be one for the books.

The association’s Instagram page, launched in October, enjoyed growth and engagement, sharing photos and information from NCA and member clubs—it’s a great way to keep up with events and trends. Check us out at this link or on the app at @nationalclubassociation.

NCA members received an alert when the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas threw out the U.S. Department of Labor’s new overtime rule. The ruling invalidated the overtime rule in its entirety nationwide by affirming a duties-based overtime standard consistent with the Fair Labor Standards Act’s FLSA) executive, administrative and professional definitions, which form the so-called EAP Exemption. By vacating the rule, the current overtime salary threshold will return to $35,568 per year.

The fall issue of Club Director, NCA’s flagship periodical, shares Eight Regulatory Issues Affecting Clubs, a dive into actions and potential regulations that may affect private clubs in 2025 and beyond. It’s included in your membership (sign in with your email address—no password required).
