Legislative Update
Congress Close To Wrapping Up Work
With the standard D.C. caveat, “there’s no deal until there’s a deal” Congress appears close to reaching an agreement on coronavirus relief. While details are still being worked out and drafted into legislative language, the package is expected to come in at roughly $1 trillion and will include direct payments to Americans somewhere between $600 and $700. The relief package extends unemployment assistance with an additional $300 per week through March and provides roughly $320 billion for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Eligibility for the program is largely the same as it has been with the exception of allowing some 501(c)(6) organizations to secure loans for the first time. Unfortunately, 501(c)(7) social and recreational clubs are not eligible. The package also provides funds for s chools, testing and vaccine distribution. The bill will be hitching a ride on the $1.4 trillion appropriations omnibus package to fund the federal government. Lawmakers must pass the legislation and the President must sign it before 11:59 Friday night to avoid a government shutdown.
Biden Inauguration Limited
The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies announced it will be limiting the number of people attending the swearing in due to the pandemic. The ceremony will still be held on the West front of the Capitol where has been held since President Ronal Reagan moved it there in 1981. Joint Committee leaders indicated it is likely Members of Congress will receive just one ticket for a guest, whereas in previous years 200,000 were issued for reserved areas nearest the stage.

HHS has started a new website with resources for combating COVID-19 and understanding what to do if you have COVID-19, have recovered or never had it.
