Situational Awareness
The House is not in session this week but is subject to call of the Speaker in the event an agreement on further Coronavirus relief and stimulus is reached. The Senate is technically in session, but an agreement is being sought to recess for two weeks due to three Senators testing positive for COVID-19. Committee work is being conducted in both chambers.
Coronavirus Relief Agreement Making Progress
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin continued talks late last week and over the weekend to see if they can agree on a relief and stimulus package. There appears to be common ground on many provisions, but the sticking point remains aid to state and local governments. Pelosi has offered $486 billion and the administration is offering $250 billion. I reached out to Democratic and Republican Leadership over the weekend to reiterate NCA’s priorities of expanding club eligibility for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), enhancement of the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) and aid your state and local governments.
NCA Signs Letter Urging Agreement
Last week, NCA signed a letter urging House and Senate Leaders to reach an agreement on coronavirus aid as soon as possible. More than 100 organizations signed the letter, and in an effort to build support, NCA urged allied organizations to sign the letter as well. The National Golf Course Owner’s Association, Club Management Association of America, and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America were among the signers.
